"Can we make the bay?"

Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy Hymn #335
By Philip Paul Bliss
Brightly beams our Father's mercy from his lighthouse evermore
but to us he gives the keeping of the lights along the shore
Let the lower lights be burning; send a gleam across the wave.
Some poor fainting, struggling Seaman you may, rescue you may save.

I can honestly say I do not remember exactly what was taught in Gospel Doctrine on Sunday except this point which brought my brain back to the relief society room. Brother something or another read the lyrics to this Hymn and then told the story on how this song came to be. Mr. Bliss was sitting in church one day and the preacher told a story about the Cleveland Lighthouse and a ship trying to make the bay. The captain of the ship turned to his navigator as the boat was tossed around a raging sea and asked "is that the Cleveland lighthouse?" over the storm the navigator cried "yes sir it is" the captain nodded, "are you sure?" again the response was yes. "If it is where are the lower lights?" the captain asked. The navigator didn't have response, the captains question went unanswered and he asked his final question "Can we make the bay" the navigator nodded "we must sir, if we don't we will surely perish." The captain nodded and continued to look for the lower lights that would light the way safely into the calm bay, but he never found them. His ship missed the bay and smashed into the rocks sending itself to a watery grave.
Sad story right? Agreed. Brother whatsit talked about how as members of the church we are the lower lights and that Christ is the lighthouse and the lower lights belong to his disciples and if one goes out how quickly we need to relight it. The light of course being our testimonies and the way we live our life which is different and strange to others but an example and a testament to what we believe he kept reemphasizing that we needed to be an example to other members of the church who need a reminder. Now i sat there, in the front row mind you, and had this thought, We as members of the church can see Christ our lighthouse we can see His hand in our lives, but I couldn't help but think about those who can't see Christ, who can't see the light house. Those who can only see the lower lights. How bright do our lights burn? is our lower light a beacon that can stretch for miles or simply a candle? Oh to be a lighthouse.

oddly proportioned.

Tonight is one of those nights where what i talk about and the pictures you get to look at have nothing to do with each other. Though quick explanation these are more spring break pictures, and these girls off to my left are Jordan and Cianne Wallins' girls Abby left and Izzy right they are my church buddies, and two of my favorite girls older than 8. :) But anywho today I was down at my desk and the school doctor came in. My feet were on the desk, and I was lounging. Mr. Stevens said something to me and i walked into the tape room, and the following conversation happened:
doctor "Miss can i measure you?"
me: with raised eyebrow "sir?"
doctor "oh that must sound bad, but can i take your measurements?"
me: "you're not a seamstress which measurements are you talking about?"
Doctor "Bone measurements."
me: "ok" and out came the tape measure.
YEARS OF MEDICAL SCHOOL LEAD TO THIS DISCOVERY:
Tia is Short.
Tia has short tibs and fibs.
Tia has the femur bones of a 5'8 girl
Tia has a big butt. Put with my long femur Tia is fast, and built for endurance running. thank you Doctor for attending medical school to tell me all of this.

Estoy yendo a casa

Now my dear friends do not be upset. I am afraid I have grave news. I, your fearless relative, have been asked to be the sophomore spokesman at Graduation. Which unfortunately does not begin until the Seniors are all sober so on May 21st a week after exams are closed. Grave news you ask? besides giving a speech that will be remarkably unremarkable I wont be able to leave good ol' Corth Narolina until the night of the 21st which means for you that you wont see my face until the 23rd ish. Fact it does not take 2 days to drive 2,000 miles but it does if you are traveling with Ian and his latest accomplishment.

In other news HAPPY EASTER! Thanks Mom for the box of candy and toothpaste (I have always loved that dynamic duo.) oh yes and for my phone I look forward to the day when I can actually give it the activation of life gift. I hope there was an epic egg battle. My Easter was pretty laid back just worked on papers nutrition, and motor development. I still have yet to conquer my MD Lab and I need to study for my 5 finals. :/ college loves me, but I am afraid it's a one sided relationship. Church was excellent but I have rambled on enough i'll tell you about it later.

Technology -Relationship

K so some of you know i have a friend named Zack McKee who i until recently had never met. Oh wait you didn't know? ok i'll tell you a story. Elder McKee served his mission here in NC, but more specifically in Winston-Salem for 7 months so he is a huge favorite around here. Anyways while Zack was on his mission he taught my friend Nicole. (she didn't convert but they kept in touch). Nicole last March discovered that i was a Mormon and from Utah and gave Zack my number we have been texting/talking ever since. So after much facebook stalking and conversations on the phone, and random texts messages. Zack came out to NC last Wednesday and we met. So family here you go. This is Zack.

CVD

CVD yes I meant to put CVD not DVD. Not that movies are not amazing but CVD is what I'm taking a break from writing about. CVD cardiovascular disease or just straight up heart disease is mainly caused by something called Atherosclerosis. I was just tested on this in Nutrition, hearing and learning about stuff like this makes me want to be a heart surgeon, and then I remind myself that i'm not good with hearts. Anyways Atherosclerosis is the formation of plaque in your arteries. (Which is why they designed stints.) The problem with Atherosclerosis is its a peek a boo disease that fools our bodies into thinking its something else. That something else is Chronic Inflammatory Disease which is taken care of, like most inflammation, by white blood cells called Macrophages. Here in lies the problem, these Macrophages can not process (get rid of) all of the plaque or (LDL Cholesterol LDL-CHO ) so these Macrophages take in all of the LDL-CHO and then burst sending plaque all over the artery wall. But since the body reads the disease as Inflammation it keeps sending the Macrophages to the "inflamed" site thus provoking the cycle.

k i'm done being a nerd.

"To be or not to be" Really is the question.

I love General Conference. :) Sorry for not keeping my blog as up to date as you would like. But here is what has gone on I left for spring break the Day after i saw Aunt Nancy. (who looks phenomenal!!) It was wonderful to see her and catch up. I miss the whole family interaction business.

So i could talk about conference, but i haven't re-read my favorite talks yet so that blog will have to wait. But i did have a moment the other day in Relief Society. Sister Turvaville was teaching about the Apostle Peter. While the "women" discussed what they knew about Peter, Sister Turvaville wrote on the board some of the "Big Peters" or his defining moments; moments that said a lot about his character.

Sister Turv went on and told the story about the apostles chillin' in a boat out at sea, when the waves started to turn to white caps, and eventually the boat began to be tossed, and the Apostles looked out and saw a man walking across the water and they were afraid. Now we know it was Christ upon the water, and bade them to "Come unto Him." now here she paused and asked us for the rest of the story a good sister told the rest of the story about how Peter called out "Lord if it be ye let me come unto you upon the water." and Christ bade him come and Peter walked on the water. Now here Young Sister Turvaville interrupted (age 17) and said "Mom you might want to add that he's the only apostle who Christ said directly had 'little faith'" Everyone in the room chuckled at this and Sister Turv wrote it on the board. . . I had to speak up after that because it struck me that no other Apostle even got out of the boat. If Peter had LITTLE faith and walked to Christ and IMMEDIATELY when he started to sink, cried out "Master save me!" and IMMEDIATELY he was pulled back to the top of the water to stand with Christ. What about the other Apostle's who stayed in the boat who never tried their faith by walking out to meet Christ on the sea? I said my piece and no one said anything the room was actually quite still. I assumed i said the wrong thing. Sister Turv just kinda stared at me and then she erased what her daughter had said from the board. She finished her lesson probably not the way she intended to, but I think highly of Peter and i think he gets a bad rap because Christ always told him "to have faith" but Peter got out of the boat.

I think we all are out of the boat, i think we made that decision when we came to earth to gain a body and to be tested. Now we stand upon the water, and sure we make mistakes and lose faith and start to sink, but when we do we can ask for the Master to save us and He will.

yep just a thought. i love your blogs thanks for the updates with Brans, and Kate with the pregnancy... oh wait... :) and Letto its crazy Spencer is already married and tyler is an old man. April thanks for the Hawaii pictures. :) Mom pink lace is done :) and midge 16. wow. first date?
lots of love.
