SOCCER

We played our second game on Saturday against a club team from Alice, Vegas, i mean VIRGINIA. It was fun, we completely controlled the game, the only difference was they executed twice on our defensive mistakes. We had eight corner kicks and i got my head on two of them but my fat head pushed the ball the wrong direction. Anyways i started again, as the left outside mid, then i was pulled because i wasn't playing so well. The second half i started as a left forward and i scored a few minutes later, off of a B-E-Autiful cross from Tara Madden. After the game, we went out to dinner with the opposing team they were cool, but for the most part we really didn't associate with them. Coach Callahan sat with Erica, Kellie, and I. He is soo socially awkward kinda like my oldest sister at times. :) but he's cool i like him. Though no matter how hard i try i never get told good job, which is probably a good thing, maybe my head will get smaller. lots of love!

2013 RETREAT!!!

So Friday we didn't have soccer practice because the first years were going on a Retreat to the "mountains" (big hills with trees on them.) It was truly a lot of fun for the most part. I taught them the Sammuri's Unite game (hi ya!) big buttay, bust a move, and of course Butt Charades. It was hilarious and very entertaining to watch some people step out of their comfort zone. Friday night we spent it in "cabins" 15 girls in one cabin. wow lots of estrogen. Anyways that was an experience i really don't want to relive, most of the time the girls informed everyone in the tent about their sex life, even bragged about it. (i was trying to sleep, but was simply mortified by everything these girls had done.) When they discovered that i wasn't asleep they asked me about my love life, and i told them that i was raised to believe that premarital sex was inappropriate=WRONG!! They just all kinda looked at me like i was from a different planet. and in a way i am. I wasn't raised like the rest of them. I have standards and well some of them don't. The girl in the bunk across from mine, said my answer surprised her, but she thought it was cool. :)

Tradition

Salem has TONS of Traditions like Big/Lil Sister. Essentially, a junior picks a 1st year and takes them under their wing for the next two years. Fall Fest is the big one that everyone is talking about, and we are reminded about it everyday at lunch. The seniors stand on their chairs and yell "How many days till fall fest? 31!!" then they sing, "31 days till fall fest a he** of a day so drink chug-a-luga drink chug-a-luga 31 days till fall fest a he** of a day." kinda random kinda crazy, especially when they fall off of their chairs. school is good Wake Forest finally had a football game and i was stuck doing homework. Math is kicking my butt ... oh wait everything academic is kicking my butt. ah well i'll deal with it.

Orientation

Probably the most fun I have had is going to soccer practice, or pulling late nights with the team. The rest of my days are spent in orientation meetings, or with my Signature Group. Orientation is boring and well my signature group I'm definitely the minority, most of the girls are really nice, but one little chica and i butt-heads just a little. Her first words to me were "Are you a Mormon? I hate Mormons." Naturally i grinned said Yes, yes i am LDS. Which opened up the next classroom discussion on Mormonism. giving Miss Mormon Hater a perfect opportunity to contradict everything and put in her own two cents worth on my religion. Ug that was annoying and frustrating. Soccer is going great! i absolutely love to play with these girls they are a lot of fun, and usually give me a challenge. We have Opening Convocation tomorrow night. Its our first semi-formal activity. Its also where the 1st years take the Honor Code. I'm looking forward to that.

LAST SATURDAY:
We had a game at 10 so we got to sleep in till 8:30 it was nice. Once we were on the field it of course started to rain (like it always does out here.) and SOAKED us all. Then it stopped right as the game started, but it rained just enough to make everything wet which was no bueno. We lost the game but Jay liked what he saw, and i played RATHER well. :) I like it Jay was our center ref and corrected us while we were playing telling us what he wanted to see and how to fix it that was cool. um... YEAH we play again this Saturday against a Virginia CLUB team so that should really tell us a lot about where we are at as a team. On Friday the 1st years (not freshmen that's sexist.) have a little GET AWAY to the Mountains and will return Saturday MORNING.

LIFE here is going good we start school on Wednesday and today i have meetings with my counselor, DOCTOR P...something something. He's kinda cool. Well besides GHOST stories about my dorm, dropping a bed, and having to wait in line for FOOD its not so BAD. :D I love you all!

3-a-days

Ah well our 3-a-days are over and we have our first scrimmage tomorrow. :D i'm way excited, we actually might get to sleep in for an extra hour!! Morning practices are brutal its all conditioning for a solid hour fifteen. The first day we ran two miles and ran up a "hill" the next day it was interval sprints (sprint for 30 sec. rest for 30.) Those really kicked my butt and then 20,40,60 yarders, and today it was more interval sprints and then 20,40,60,80 yarders muy bueno!! the 2nd practices are all ball work type stuff maybe a little 5v5 but mostly the technical stuff is during this practice. My favorite though is the 3rd practice because we scrimmage :) As far as soccer goes i think i'm doing really well. but i guess i will find out tomorrow. Hey love you all! and i'll be expecting my first care package soon!! ;)
FUN FACTS:
mine and Celeste's room STINKS
I have TWO bloodblisters
There is no such thing as the word ANYTHING, (they all say nothing)
sleep is VALUABLE
Jay actually has a sense of HUMOR :)
I LOVE my team mates (with one exception)
I miss HOME.

THE WORST PLANE EXPERIENCE

Well kids I’m in typing this while I’m in the airport waiting for my flight. I met a really nice family and they showed me where I should go, thank goodness for nice people. After that I was sitting with a bunch of yankee fans they had this old man with them he was hilarious, I could have done without the Yankee boys though. On the plane I met the man who coined the word “Vegas’d” Salvador something or another he was really nice and gave me someone to talk to while our flight out of Vegas was delayed for an hour and a half. And that is where my troubles began. That flight after it finally took off was good, at first I h had a woman who was drunk sitting in the aisle seat on my row, she found out I was from Utah and dropped the F bomb I kid you not every sentence and I’m not exaggerating. So my new buddy Sal and I talked while she cussed up a storm. Then she yelled at Sal, and told me there was no way anyone could know what they wanted to do with their life at age 18. So of course our next conversation was about school and physical therapy. She ended up leaving us before we took off and switched to a “more fun” seat which was A-ok with me. Now after that flight which I froze to death on we got off and since we were delayed I missed my flight so It was rescheduled I was sent down to the wrong gate and missed my rescheduled flight. Then I got chewed out by the lady who re-rescheduled my flight who had hair like Sasquatch. After that I went and parked my bubble-butt in F6 where my plane would come in about an hour. Finally a nice easy flight!! Not too shabby, it went fast I slept the whole way until we came over Detroit, it was so cloudy! We sat above the clouds looking it was incredible I wish my camera had batteries in it I would have taken a picture it was really neat to see. Ah the flight from Detroit to Greensboro North Carolina was good no incidents. Until I got off and discovered that my baggage had never left Minnesota so I am without clothes for the time being the whole team though is being way cool there are eleven first years and we get along really well. Celeste Pantuso my roommate is awesome. She’s kinda quiet but that’s a good thing I like her a lot.

The team is awesome!! We had our first meeting which explained this fundraiser we are doing L yeah we all know how great I am at those. Practice was good this morning. We ran two miles and then did sprints up a little hill. I like it a lot. The buildings here are absolutely amazing they are old brick and there are old fashioned fences to I mean ancient, seriously the coolest pictures could be taken here. I’ll try to post some soon.

1st mosquito bite

1st lost on campus

1st party

1st night

1st chit chat with the team

Luggage arrived yesterday so nice! i have clothes and it actually looks like i live here. Though i need some pictures. Three a-days are hard but i like it. We do 3 minutes sprints ug those are kinda difficult, but its good. Sorry it took so long to post this i've been without the internet since i left, and i just got my connection cable.

My Previous Life

Well ladies and gents i leave for Winston-Salem, North Carolina to go to school on Tuesday. Well actually to go play soccer for the Salem Spirits. But hey an education is a great excuse to play sports. Assuming i don't get red-shirted. :( Anywho's i'll tell you more about it when i get there. Oh wait "Little Dev" is what Dad said i should call this so since i ALWAYS do what i'm told whala. I'm kinda dreading the 3-a-days and the two hour time change, i guess my room mate will have to drag me out of bed the first couple of days. i am looking forward to meeting the team and eating 5 times a day :D. AH what really is scaring the most is going to Vegas to get on an airplane and then switching twice. i'm basically terrified so pray for me!
